Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to get tickets for Fela! I was first in line (again) and this time I went with a couple of my new friends. After waiting for an hour, I had dinner at Cosi (Tomato Basil Mozzarella with Chicken and Tomato Basil soup).
The show was excellent, but not exactly my genre. Basically, the show is about a club owner named Fela. He owns The Shrine a musician/political activist for the country of Nigera and wanted to stop the ongoing corruption of the country. The set was amazing. I really enjoyed the technical aspects like the images projected onto the sides of theater. The costumes were beautiful. The audience is literally a PART of the show. There was even an interactive portion and we got to dance. We're all clocks when we dance. Move your hips like the hands of a clock. So swing your hips to 1 o clock, 2 o clock, 3 o clock, etc. Mix it up! A woman in front of me looked bored at the beginning, but when she was told to dance...she got her groove on! The Afrobeat is a new kind of music and it becomes a whole new kind of experience.
Sunday was Laundry Day! Most expensive thing of my life. Let's just say I had to put 25 dollars on a card (like debit cards). The machine spent 5 for the card alone. THEN 5.25 to wash and dry! (2x1.75 for 1 wash. 1.75 for one dryer) The rest of the week was normal. Internship, classes etc. Thursday was the first snowfall I've seen since arrival. It was annoying to get hit the face with them. On Friday, I got to help with a concert! loved standing in the Studio and see how it aired live. Later that afternoon, I helped a producer with a shoot! I was filled in on a story, helped escort guests, and even earned myself NBC apparel. A good, productive day. Downside: I got so involved and interested with working, I forgot to give myself time for breakfast and lunch. My first meal was at 6pm.
Then I went to an NYU basketball game. The boys team played Carnegie Mellon and it was the closest, most intense game i've seen. It was literally tied every other minute and by the end, everyone in the crowd was screaming for a win. 59-57 to the last 5 seconds. NYU won. It was beautiful. This weekend is the coldest one yet. Currently it is a balmy 13 degrees outside on this sunny Saturday morning. Chances of extended exploration? 60%. Possible homework accomplishment? 10% Postcard writing? 20% Sleep some more? 10%. But, I know I will be taking pictures of food!

We have REAL bread bowls at NYU.
P.S. I've been getting many comments about the types of pictures I've been taking. Spring time, when it's warm and people are really happy--I will.

Jess! You look so pretty in that picture!! I love your shirtttt!
