My last week of February did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. It might have been the first bad week I've had since I have been here. Fortunately it started off on a high note when I moved into a brand new room! But, I was very disoriented the rest of the week and lost things from laundry cards to gloves. Friday was the NYC's second Blizzards of the season. New York was in a state of emergency and schools were closed, etc. But, that night the weather cleared up for me to attend a showing of The Duchess of Malfi at Red Bull Theatre. Entering the St. Clement's Cathedral, the off-Broadway production exhibited a much more raw side of play productions. The story begins as a loving romance as the Duchess, a royal blooded woman, marrys her steward Antonio. Of course the marriage is controversial with the church and the fanciful plot transforms into a horrorifying gore tale. Blood spews, guns are fired, and an evil tension fills the room. The experience definitely left an impression. If you're coming to NYC and want to see something entirely different, this is worth it. It's no Avenue Q or Wicked.
On Sunday I had the chance to enter Brooklyn and visit a place called Jive Turkey! It's a little resfaurant in New York featuring Fried Turkey. The place has been on the Food Network, Travel Channel, and many local television stations. It was quite an adventure finding it, but well worth it. Pictured here is a hot turkey sandwhich with gravy and cranberry sauce.
This weekend I am very lucky to have a friend of mine visit me! I plan on eating lots of food, taking a ton of pictures, and going to my FIRST basketball game. Updates to come! (I'm also excited for the first 50 degree, SUNNY weekend).
